This week, our curator Winnie set some perimeters for Aki's residency with us. For the next 3 months, Aki would be livestreaming her work desk on Facebook from 3PM-5PM weekly, from Monday to Wednesday. This would culminate in over 72 hours of livestreaming. While chatting and going through texts on their own, they would be writing down their notes separately on a shared Googledoc. They will then compare the contents presented by each other, and complete a review of the notes at the end of each session. As they each go through Nicolas Bourriaud's Relational Aesthetics, they utilised the "triplet method" to establish and break down their different understanding on the same topic, thereafter establishing a common ground that addresses and consolidates both persons' knowledge in the sphere. They regard this as a performance and demonstration of knowledge production. They communicated the issue of trust building and transparency, citing the trust they developed in sharing information with each other is only possible due to their mutual understanding and synergy. Aki has also broken down her system of knowledge digestion, calculating her speed of reading and note making at 4.5 hours a day to complete the text in 8 days. Aki has also raised the issue of being conscious of the gaze of anonymous viewers during her livestream, and is curious about what this invisible observer is seeing, thinking, perceiving and understanding. She is also curious as to how the medium of live streaming develops an audience for the artist. Leave your comments and questions down below!

- Aki continued to read the book, Relational Aesthetics by Nicolas Bourriaud (Mandarin Version)

- She began quantifying reading hours and time needed to study the text.

- Aki calculated that she needed 4.5 hr to read each day hence finishing the book by Monday

- Aki thought about the working patterns and the presentation of her working patterns

- Development of knowledge based trust in order to have this dialogue-based investigation based on the trust that Aki and Winnie have
in communicating and understanding each other (Synergy)

- Awareness of the viewer's gaze and format of participation

- Studying the web views and engagement numbers (What do they mean?)

p15/137; 2h-10%;18h left;

Working Pattern:

Fact: live stream-

What’s hidden behind the screen:

  • how do i work:

  • how do i arrange my schedule 2pm-3pm准备;3pm-5pm直播;30min-1h回顾;

  • Relational Based, trust among the dialogue

  • Trust Building

  • knowledge based trust

  • to have this dialogue based investigation is base on the trust that (we both) have

  • in communicating and understanding each other

  • the synergy (note by winnie)

  • Emotions: doubt/lost/overload/insomnia…

  • Political depression (share your resources: money materials, or enhance/spread/share information capital)

  • mind+body

Transparency

  • web-eyes

  • medium

  • internet-based engagement

where when what who how

  • adaptions

  • does the comments will interrupt

  • numbers, data, disappointment, changing patterns

  • the meaning of transparency

why shall we be transparent

----------

Internet-based engagement:

Facebook based live stream opened up more access for participation and provided windows for reflections.

Process based, time based,

Transparency (internet)

- The use of the triplet methods to establish and break down our different understanding on the same topic.

- Knowledge cross-sphere

- It is a performance as a demonstration of knowledge production.

As both of us has different backgrounds and different understandings of what things and concepts mean, so we are trying to establish a common ground that addresses and consolidate both of our knowledge in this sphere.

Nicolas Bourriaud

Winnie----------------------

triplet method

THE FRAMEWORK OF ONLINE RESIDENCY:

Dialogue as the Content:

knowledge crossphere _ winnie

  • notion of gaze - usually talks about bias and identity (subject position)

→ what are you looking at and how are you looking at it.

  • dialogue - bouncing off ideas ( ping pong reflection )

→ a context and a form of presentation

Process-oriented Research

  • knowledge topography

  • our research is open-end, 呈现我们的思考过程而不是draw a conclusion 更不是prompt an idea

  • Research based

  • investigation of [ ] unknown?

  • timebased medium

  • democratic engagement to participation

  • story\fiction

Nature of Online Residency

  • Performative act

  • Transparent working mode

  • societal level: what are the ignored things/matter*

  • suffering of the mind/the body i.e.

Value - Artistic Qualities, Perspective Change

  • artistic quality & standard → reframing the value of [x] Site-specific approaches. The results and products may not always be tangible or material in their nature, but is always human-oriented.

→区别 socially engaged art - social practice - social design
